Myth Unit Reflection

This quarter in language a class, we were doing a unit on myths. It was a very fun and unique experience for me. We read 3 myths, each one had a message that writers wanted to come across us. I learned something from each of these myths. From a myth called “Why turtles live in water” I learned that in some cases animals can be smarter and cleverer than people. In the second myth called “Anansi and the squirrel”, the squirrel said “it takes a thief to catch a thief” and I agree with her. I learned that you can’t trust all people. The third myth I read is “El Dorado and the City of Gold”. From that myth I learned that when you want something you should reach out for it and never give up and fight for what you want. In this myth De Ordez did not find the city of gold that he was searching for, but he did not give up.

The myth called “Why turtles live in water” is a myth about a little turtle who was sleeping under a bush minding its own business. In one moment a villager came and saw the turtle just lying there, he wanted to kill it and eat it for dinner. Then the turtle tricked the villagers. So the people were the ones that were unintelligent in this myth, not the animals. I think it is very cruel to kill an animal that has not done anything to you. The myth called “Anansi and the squirrel” is a myth about a little spider called Anansi, and that spider wanted a grain farm from a squirrel. But the little, hard working squirrel refused. Anansi did everything to get it and he did. But that was not the end of the story! One day during a big storm, Anansi and his family were carrying grains, but once the storm started they dropped the grains and ran to find shelter. I think that was an unintelligent thing to do because of course someone would take it, and a person called Crow did. Anansi got mad at Crow because he kept on saying that the grains are his. Then Anansi called squirrel to prove they were his but instead of helping him, she said that Crow found them, so they are his. And that is why on the end of the book, squirrel said “it takes a thief to catch a thief”. In the last myth the main character De Ordez, is very wise and when he wants something, he will do anything to get it and that is exactly what I learned from this myth.

So as you can see, myths can teach you a lesson or they will try to pass a message to you. I have learned a lot from just reading these 3 myths. In conclusion, what I have learned is first what a myth is, I learned that animals can be smarter than people, and that if I want something, I should reach for it and it might come true. There are many more myths to read, but I hope you like my reflection and that you will read those 3 myths.JJJ

My book report reflection

In November we were given a task which was to write our own book report. We did a book report on a book of our choice. We had to include the beginning muddle and end, character, any weird words, about the author, theme and the setting. It was very fun writing it. We had to make a glog page and write on there, after we would present it. One of my major problems was that I was reading a Serbian book and this book had to be in English, so I had to start a new book, but on the end I managed to finish it. Also there was not enough space on the glog text boxes. It was very fun writing about the book and reading the book itself. I hope you all see my glog and also please, read that book!!!!!!!!!!! (it’s called the valentine’s day disaster)
