Poetic Devices

What other people think of poetry:

There are as many definitions of poetry as there are poets. Wordsworth defined poetry as "the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings;" Emily Dickinson said, "If I read a book and it makes my body so cold no fire ever can warm me, I know that is poetry;" and Dylan Thomas defined poetry this way: "Poetry is what makes me laugh or cry or yawn, what makes my toenails twinkle, what makes me want to do this or that or nothing."

What poetry means to me:

To me poetry is something that can express feeling and someone’s personality. Poetry does not always have to rhyme; it depends on what people like. That is one way of poetry expressing peoples likes and dislikes. Sometimes poems can express feeling because people can write sad poems if they are sad themselves, the poems that they write make them feel better. And sometimes people write poetry for fun.

So as you can see, poetry is not only songs that rhyme, it is much more, it is whatever you think it is.
